Reviews Overview

Most Liked

The double-cooked chips come out crispy, fluffy, and served in a perfectly folded paper cone. They often receive high praise for portion size, making them a satisfying choice for hungry diners. Freshly battered fish, such as the thick, golden cod, earns rave reviews for both flavor and crunch. People also love the classic Pukka pies — chicken and mushroom or steak and kidney — served hot and flaky, making them a must-try. The ambiance feels lively yet casual, encouraging customers to unwind while enjoying their meals. Fast service with a smile further enhances the positive experience, and timely takeaways ensure you won't be left waiting long.

Most Disliked

While Kemp Town Chippy garners lots of love, some customers find the small space a bit cramped, especially during busy lunchtime rushes. This can lead to a longer wait for a table. The menu, while extensive, occasionally runs low on popular items during peak times, which is a letdown for eager diners. Also, those craving seating immediately may be disappointed, as the casual setup means limited indoor space. Some customers also mentioned that veggie options are cooked to order, causing a wait if you're in a hurry. And while the casual atmosphere is appealing, there’s a lack of elaborate decor, which can feel basic to some.

Double cooked chips in a well folded paper cone, ice cold crispy gherkin and just the right amount of mushy peas. If you’re in kemp town and fancy some chips, this is the place (plaice).

Just moved to the area and pleased to have a chippy right behind our flat! Popped in for Friday night chippy tea - large cod & chips between my son and I. Was in and out in a few minutes, both fish & chips were yummy, no cooking for me and minimal washing up so a winner all round.

Felt really hungry after a couple of hours stop in Brighton following a 90 mile drive to drop my son and his gear at his new rental. Had an hour or so left parking on front so Googled nearest chippy and headed up to Kemp Town which was opening in around 20 mins. First time ever found myself waiting alone outside this tiny chippy looking in hungrily as the chipmeister prepared to serve. Put on my mask in anticipation and right on time the door opened and I could enter to order a spring roll, large chips and oasis drink (grabbed from fridge) for £5.85. I asked if there were any veggie sausages ready but was told these are understandably only cooked to order. My order was tidily wrapped up with salt & vinegar added and in a jiffy I was winding my way back to my car to enjoy my feast (which was delish) and got off home well-fed!! Recommended. John

Decent wee chippy and the curry sauce is excellent but only served in the evening, there's a laundrette opposite so kill two birds with one stone.

Spectacular chips and lovely blokes behind the counter. There are a couple of chairs by the window, but you can't sit there to eat since some person reported them for allowing people to do so without providing a bathroom. But it's possibly even better to walk round the corner and eat them on the seafront.
